All of my survey informers read magazines which is good as
it means that the magazine industry still has a good amount of influence. 70%
of these informants read music magazines and 50% of them buy magazines once a
month, which means that music still matters to teenagers. They would also spend
£2-£5 on a magazine. The two major genres of music suggested are rock and
indie. This is good as it means that I can tap into a, so called “Hipster”
market. These people go to about one live staged music event a year so it would
be important to stress that fact and exploit it. The main social websites that
they use are the normal Facebook and Twitter however we are interested in
Flickr and Tumblr as they are the least known. Their values and aspirations are
to be arty and party hard! These results mean that my magazine reaches a unique
target market.

Flashback's article on Morrissey
In the article on Morrissey the writer Kevin Cummins talks
about his journey to a concert and then the people he met when he was there. He
does this in no particular style other than as if he was writing into his
diary. There are no long or difficult words to understand, it is just like he
is writing to a dear friend. It is easy to register that he has had a nice time
whilst he was there. He even includes analogies by saying that it was like “the
Pope had come to town.”
He does all of this but yet includes only one quote from
Andy Rourke about a bass guitar. However this one quote does show a small sense
of friendship with another. Mr Rourke calls Mr Cummins by his first name;
Kevin. This shows that he must have had a lot of interaction with the band and
Mr Rourke.
The design features however wouldn’t be out of place in a
Whitaker’s Almanack. All of the photos have a small caption near to them describing
the photo and why it is there. Whereas the lead image is big and brash to draw
the readers in.

How the women are treated in 50 Cent’s music video ‘Candy Shop’.
In 50 Cent’s video ‘Candy Shop’ women are shown as sexual
and seductive to an extravagant amount. The women are shown as this to such an
extent that they can be classed as things. There is one point where there is a
very big stereotypical marker when one woman is dressed in a leather nurse’s
uniform with very big ruby coloured lips. This stereotypes this young woman as
a stereotypical man would like to see her like that.
This video has defiantly been shown for a male advantage as
women are wrongly stereotyped into sexual objects. The entire way during the
video women are shown in skimpy and seductive outfits and uniforms as if they
are there only to please 50 Cent. The lyrics help provide evidence of this by
saying things like “I’ll let you lick the lollipop” and “climb on top, ride
like you in the rodeo”.
However much the amount of demoralising imagery this video
combines everything that a rapper wants to be and unfortunately that spreads
down to the people who listen to the music.
All of this, in my personal opinion, shows how wrong people
can be on the facts of equality and also gives a reason why the birth rate is
going up as men/boys are just trying to be like their wrongly placed idols.

Masthead and Original Imagery.
The top image is my final masthead. I love the freedom it has with the multiple colours.
The other images below are my original photos. Some I chose not to use because of their general silliness.

Pre-design CD covers
These were a few that never made it... They do not include origional imagery.
This final one does include origional imagery.
These helped me channel my ideas into the final finished piece. Each one stranger than the last...

Design Brief
Design brief pp
This is my design brief. This is what I used to make and design my CD cover with. It will hopefully explain everything to make some sense.
My CD cover
This is the completed design for my CD cover. I like the fact that the LEGO man goes from surprised to angry during the photos. The white writing on the red background works well I think. Another good feature is the album name growing larger as the name progresses.
